The community retail center is located in Shunyi District, Beijing. With a total GSF around just 20,000sm, the center strives to become a social hub for the surrounding communities, with grocery stores, boutique shops, kids play areas, and a variety of dinning venues.
Our design team aims to combine the social space and the commercial space organically. Multiple terraces are created on 4th and 5th floors to extend the indoor space to outdoors. An interior platform is created at the 3rd floor, with a three-story tall side atrium and all glass fa?ade. This social platform encourages people to reach the higher floors of the shopping center, and creates opportunities for the customers to interact with each other and with the urban street outside.
Aside from stone panels and glass panels, red perforated metal panels are employed to mark out the key locations of the building, such as the main entrances at ground floor and the staircase leading to the roof garden. Coupled with the emblematic arc shaped spaces, the red panels emit orange light at dusk, giving warmth and brightness to the community living center.
